Here is the low-key rendition of the Hosta I posted yesterday. Question is, which do I like best? The texture is certainly much more pronounced in this one….due to some nice strong sunlight from the side. I certainly think they both shout ‘defunct’!

Hmmm…Even though i usually prefer low-key images, for some reason your high-key version of this still wins me. It makes me feel like i’m a room full of light and surrounded by it, it gives out something very bright and positive, even though the flowers are decaying,,,
That sounds like a great reason to prefer the high key!
No 2 for me, more dramatic, though No 1 is purer.
Yes, I would agree…and I love drama!
Stunningly beautiful once again.
Thanks, Cee! I have now run out of decaying flowers, but hopefully something will turn up! 🙂
Another fantastic photo. I like yesterday’s high key version better. The white background works better for me with the muted colors of the flowers. This version is still stunning—tomato, tomahhto—right?
Interesting to see what other people take from an image! I see where you are coming from with the white background and the muted colours, I do love the simplicity of that image….but I’m a sucker fot texture and drama, too! Tomato, tomahto or whatever! 😀
I much prefer the drama to the light! Wonder if our preferences say something about us? 🙂
I’m sure they do! I know I have always had a more sombre side….and also a side attracted to the dramatic!
I think the Hosta has definitely had its day, Sue, but your beautiful image has given it a bit of a reprieve. 🙂
Thank you, Sylvia! 😉
sad and poignant! death and next year rebirth! Beautiful shot!!
Thanks, Cybele, much appreciated 🙂
Oh Sue, I like the drama of this one on black. Like you I find Beauty in Decay and must get back and add to my own Beauty Lingers collection. It is interesting how we can follow a line of thought or a series in photography and then suddenly move to something else forgetting about the previous until reminded, and then get eager to do it again.
Many thanks, Lee! I totally agree re forgetting…I put it down to age!
Oh, never! 🙂
😉
I’m opting for yesterday’s version. Luminous and otherworldly.
Thanks, Tish! I like the luminous and otherworldly!
wonderful, I love decaying things
Thank you! We are kindred spirits 🙂
It’s a beautiful image. As you say yourself the sidelight does bring out some stunning details. I think this one is the favourite of the two.
Thanks, Otto…I have been really pleased with the results I have got recently. Just using natural light, paying attention to the way the light falls. I am using a 50mm prime lens which I love for it’s sharpness and camera on tripod helps as well.
I’m being contrary and liking the white background option better for this, Sue. I don’t know- something to do with the delicacy of the flower, I think 🙂
Not contrary, an individual mind! I know what you mean..part of me likes the delicate flowers against white background, but drama wins (just!) for me… 🙂
