Another image from Provence, three decades ago. Today we are in Les Baux, looking down at some warm coloured tiles – I can very clearly recall taking this picture. The textures and colours of those tiles were fantastic, and I wish I had taken more. But I was more careful with film.

Oh yes I remember those times when it was film and wondering whether I had actually got a good image but carrying limited rolls of film unable to develope them for 6 weeks. If only I had digital back then

One regret in my life is that I did not discover France, especially Provence. In the ’80s and ’90s I was too busy raising 4 children alone to have holidays of any kind and even basic camping was totally out of reach. Now I fear it would be too crowded. So I shall simply enjoy your photos Sue 🙂

As I recall, les Baux is responsible for the name of the mineral bauxite, from which aluminum is extracted.
Yep, according to The Aluminium Association ‘Bauxite was named after the village of Les Baux by Pierre Berthe. This French geologist found the ore in nearby deposits. He was the first to discover that bauxite contained aluminum.’
I love cities like that, there’s a feeling that most of the problems have been ironed out by people who were there before me. Like people in cities like that know what they’re doing.

Wonderful! Colours and textures are superb, and so is the subtle aged look.
It’s hard to remember how careful we were with film. I got my first digital camera when I retired and calculated that I’d’ve spent $1000 developing under the old technology in the first month, and a lot of it trash.
I know! I don’t think I am as profligate as you, but I still would spend quite a lot if it were film
I’m more profligate now than then.
Oh, so am I, indubitably….. I will sometimes take as many images in one day as I would have done in a week or two!

A jungle of rooves. Back in that era, every image cost a few pennies. I sometimes think how easy nowadays it is to lose that discipline that we were so used to back in the film era when we thought about an image before we pressed the shutter – making each image count.
