Margaret posted today on New uses for Ruined churches, and it put me in mind of an old monastery near Mosset in France that was converted to a home for a family, after a lot of renovation, I believe. Can’t remember how I heard about it – it’s in the Pyrenees Oriéntale region of France and I recall seeing it from a distance and being most entranced.
Just checked it out…a Trinitarian monastery and Gothic chapel, it was renovated from its ruined state by Rosemary Bailey and her husband quite some years ago, they no longer live there but it’s still in private hands. She wrote a book about the restoration, called ‘Life in a Postcard’ which I have yet to read.
Thanks for the free publicity Sue. I hadn’t come across this book, though I have read and enjoyed Rosemary Bailey’s Love and War in the Pyrenees. And I didn’t know of this house/church either – intriguing.
And of course, another Yorkshire woman in the Pyrenees…..
Of course. One fine place to another,
Indeed so!!
What a house that must have made! Unfortunately, our library doesn’t carry the book. 😦 That happens too often with non-top seller books. Sigh.
I shall get it on Kindle, I think as my library doesn’t have it
♥
Interesting, eh?
What a very lovely place, Sue.
I think so
What an amazing place to live. I would love a house like that.
Best wishes, Pete.
My thought now are that it would be remote and cold!
I suppose if you could afford to convert it, you coud afford to heat it. 🙂
Indeed!
always admire people who take on renovation projects. I could never do it!
Nope, nor me!!
That must have been a project, what a place, but to live in it, I don’t know- too big for me
I’m in agreement with you on all counts, Ritva!
😊
