A few years ago I was on a cruise which called in at Lisbon. I didn’t like any of the tours that were on offer as I wanted to see the Alfama disrict and take some images of the area that I wanted to take, not too rushed.
So I did some sleuthing, booked a Tuk-Tuk trip just for me, and when I arrived at the port, there was my driver. Friendly and knowledgeable with a good command of English, he took me around the area and I spent a good 3 hours getting a few images, and nobody being irritated with me.

The best way to do it, undoubtedly.
When we went to Bulgaria, I did a deal with a taxi driver who was always parked outside the hotel. He took us around to see the sights, waited for us at each location, and brought us back to the hotel. We used him on four occasions. His fee was half the price of the ‘arranged tour’, and we did it in comfort, not traipsing around with 40 others.

Ah yes, this was my first day in India sorted. With the right driver, it’s perfect. I didn’t have you down as a Cruise-Lady though?
I am not, by default, a cruise person, but some years ago when the MS was becoming more of a problem, some friends suggested it and I have been on 3. It’s OK if you can do your own thing to some degree, but the herd mentality drives me bonkers. I doubt I shall go again, as I have no desire to be on a floating petrie dish while SARS Cov19 is about in even very small proportions
Quite. I can see that cruising might tick some of your travel boxes in normal times, but also that Bonkers might be your default position half the time!

Perfect way to tour any city and with a guide all to yourself, it seems just the right thing.
