Lens artists photo Challenge #114: Negative Space

Amy has us looking at a Negative Space….I do like it for bringing our attention to the subject. Here, I took this image of Alliums against the light, darkening the background creating plenty of Negative Space:

Allium contre jour

Here, the darkness of the interior meant that the cobweb stood out in all that negative space:

And here, use of a wide aperture to create a blurred, bokeh laden background, a great way to create negative space, when the background is ‘too busy’:

Agapanthus unfurling

One of the reasons that I had just off-white blinds installed in my front room, as when the sun shines directly onto them, I can create images with plenty of negative space, as here:

Chinese lantern tulip

And here:

and here is an example of Negative Space in the landscape:

  1. Oh these pictures are amazing. I think you could make a whole book with just tulips.

  2. Great choices, Sue. The cobweb is beautifully exposed.

What a beautiful gallery, Sue. All are very beautiful. And special. I love the tulip especially, like a painting.
Thank you for joining in. 🙂

  8. Love the allium and the agapanthus, Sue 🙂 :). And even that sad old tulip!

  9. These are lovely Sue, but the lantern tulip is stunning. So beautifully composed in the space, so perfect for the challenge.
