One Word Sunday: Simplicity

Simplicity….not as simple as you think.

To get simplicity in an image can take a bit of thought. it might be simple lines, focussing on the thing you want by selective depth of field, or colour selection, for example.

Here are a couple that I think were successful:

Isolation using Depth of Field

A single rose, picked out from the others by using a wide depth of field, f1.8 in this example:

Pink rose

Simple lines

I have gone for this black and white image of wooden groynes on a beach, because it is all about contrast and simple geometric lines, and has no need of colour.

  1. Yes, they work very well, Sue. The rose is beautifully carried out – F1.8 requires such accuracy.
And I love the beach with simple composition.

  2. They both worked for me, Sue. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Different sorts of simplicity but both work.

  4. Excellent choices here. And I like that you mixed up color and B&W. I like simple images that focus on fine details, specifically when it comes to flowers. I love close ups of flower, so thank you for sharing. 😀

  5. That single rose is lovely!

  6. I love both images, Sue. The rose bud is well shot and the beach image is terrific with its leading zig zag lines which create multiple triangles. Very appealing to the eye.

  7. Sue

Many thanks, Jane! Glad you like my geometric beach image….

  8. Both shots work for me, Sue. Your rose bud shot has some great background blur and color too. The color is exquisite.
