It’s time again for Frizztext’s A to Z Challenge, this week it’s R. From my travels, R could be for Rievaulx, Rothenburg, Rye, Reims-Geux, Rhuddlan, Regensburg, Riquewihr and many others.
I think I shall go for Rhuddlan, or at least, the ruined castle there (R is also for Ruin). It’s many years since I’ve been, so this is a nostalgia trip. Rhuddlan castle was one of the earliest ruins I saw, and one of my favourites as a child. I started on the passion for piles of old stones early!
Rhuddlan is in Denbighshire, Wales. The castle dates from 1277, and is quite an impressive ruin:
Hop over to Frizz for more R here.
Haven’t visited this yet, looks great. Striking drum towers!
Aren’t they just!
A very impressive ruin indeed, Frizz. It looks great in B&W.
It’s Sue, here, who posted the image of Rhuddlan castle – I took the original image on Ilford FP4, in the days when I used to do my own D&P. Now scanned in, not as well as I would like! Glad you enjoyed it…
Sorry, Sue. I was looking for Frizz’s new challenge and found your post. Glad I did. 🙂
Oh, great! 🙂
This is just up the road from where Rich grew up (in Coedpoeth).
There had to be someone….
😉
Thanks for introducing me to a great new place! It looks positively poetic. Next time I’m in the UK, I’ll see if I can visit.
Bear in mind that image was taken 30 years ago! Who knows, the land around might have been built on….but I think, probably, the scene will still look much the same. 🙂
Can’t beat Wales for castles, ruined or otherwise 🙂
I agree!
That is a fantastic photo Sue the composition is magical and the subject so suits monochrome
Thank you, Pommepal. Taken in the days when I used to do my own D&P
You did very well. Do you use Photoshop now-a-days?
Lovely … it would be interesting to stand in the same place and take another now … maybe someone has …. 🙂
yes, I wonder…. and sorry for late response, I’ve been in Turkey for a few days 🙂
“R could be for Rievaulx, Rothenburg, Rye, Reims-Geux, Rhuddlan, Regensburg, Riquewihr…” – congrats! I only visited Rothenburg and Rome and Regensburg…
Do you use Photoshop now?
sorry about the delay, I’ve been on my travels! well, only 7 days, but good to see a new place. I use Apple’s Aperture most of the time, occasionally Photoshop if I need layers, oh and for resizing….
Thanks for the reply Sue, photoshop etc much easier than the old dark room isn’t it?
Digital dark rooms have the advantage of not requiring lots of preparing solutions etc, don’t smell of chemicals, and you can correct your mistakes without necessarily having to start all over again, or losing everything!
Too true as long as you work on a copy….
Ah, yes…I shoot RAW, so I always have a digital negative…
Great example Sue! Looks worth exploring.
Thanks Madhu. I’m just back from a trip, and will post my S soon when I get. A mo.
