Here is my offering for the WordPress photo challenge this week.
Craco Vecchia has been minus its human inhabitants for several decades now, and the sightless windows and circling birds high above say ‘solitude’ to me…..
This quote might be apt for some:
“The overhangingness and the staringness are unnerving”
Elizabeth Bowen, A Time in Rome
See more solitude here.
Suitably spooky, Sue. Like the cover of a Gothic horror novel!
Best wishes, Pete.
Haha! Glad you like it, Pete!
Oh, and no-one has commented on the Solitude Standing…..
With your interest in music, Solitude Standing was a song title…..
Suzanne Vega, I remember. Not really my thing though, but she had a good voice.
Yep, Suzanne Vega – a great voice
great photo, Sue, looks nearly like Count Dracula’s castle
Haha!
Now there’s a place to add to my “to do list”!
I had to look it up to find out where it is and what an interesting story it has. It seems to have become a tourist hit and now has a few safe walks into the ghosty area. Were you there recently Sue?
I would have loved to see it 30 years ago…sadly I onlŷ went 3-4 years ago
From the way it looks and from what I read about it and its abandonment online, it might not always be standing (just), which would be a shame. I’d love to go poking around there. Looks much different in the sunshine. Your shot looks quite spooky!
janet
It is steadily deteriorating ….
😦
Indeed
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Eerie and mysterious and thought-provoking…
I’m glad it has evoked those emotions….that was the plan…
made me think of Suzanne Vega
That was where I got the title from, Gavin…..
Whoops. Sorry
😀😀
Wonderful how you have anthropomorphised the building! There really is something about the Pleasure of Ruins. As usual – beautiful, evocative photograph.
Thanks, Debi……I have long taken much pleasure from ruins…..truth be told, most of my life. Glad you like this one
Very Hitchcock/Du Maurier Sue!
Erm, yes!!!
I like the apt quote but I haven’t read the book 😦 Happy Sunday, Sue!
Yippee! Someone’s picked u p on the quote! Thanks, Jo, glad you like this, and by the way, I haven’t finished the book but that quote was so apt…. Have a lovely Sunday 😀
