To See a World in a Grain of Sand...
Ooh, nice. Where?
Uppark in West Sussex
All mod cons – just no cables or batteries!
Good point!!
Very good 👍
Thank you!
Been a long time since I visited Uppark. They were still carrying out restoration work after the devastating fire in 1989.
Amazingly they rescued 90% of the items in the interior! Scorch marks on the floor are still visible
Too many of these manor houses get destroyed by fire. And most contain great artworks and treasures.
So many were lost after WW1 and a number of the remaining ones, as you say, fall prey to fire and priceless artefacts are lost
I love photographing old kitchens like this – so atmospheric!
Yes, I do, but I didn’t do this very well, I did a better job at an NT property some years ago….I’ll have to check my computer
That would be good to see if you manage to find it!
I will check later today!
suspect the kitchen I am heading for tomorrow won’t be that dissimilar to this!
Brilliant, take some photos!
Fascinating to see those old kitchens now. Despite modern advances, I still have many of those same implements in my own kitchen.
Best wishes, Pete.
So do I!
I always like looking round the kitchens and servants’ quarters. It would be a hard life.
It was a hard life, but it kept them fit!
When my friend and I toured a mansion in Newport, Rhode Island we were most interested in the kitchen. It was the one part of the house that looked familiar. The meat grinder here looks identical to the one my mom used.
Yes, the kitchens contain items we can connect with!
