I was in West Sussex this weekend, and my friend and I found some wonderful old rural churches. This one, St Andrews at Didling was a 13th Century shepherds church, nestling at the foot of the Downs, very solitary.

And inside, a very simple church lit only by the light coming through the windows, and candles…so I had to use a very high ISO as it was evening. On the altar cloth were embroidered sheep:

A great find, Sue – and a strong ending to the latest month of squares
Pleased you like this, it really made my day. Plans afoot to see it in a brighter season.
A good idea. Though your high ISO didn’t cause any big problems.
Thanks!
I love these simple but beautiful churches and chapels. We saw lots of them in France.
Yes, they are lovely to come across….the history
oh isn’t this lovely, you have really captured the age and simplicity. So glad you had a good weekend, and so impressed you squeezed in a final square on your return. That’s dedication!
Shame I missed one day!!
You could always sneak a bonus in today!
Oh, and say that it was meant to be the 30th…..
Exactly!
😊😊
You just squeezed in under the wire: a great photo to end with.
It was such a delightful little place
Lovely to see that so well preserved. Great find, Sue.
Best wishes, Pete.
It was brilliant
How lovely. I have enjoyed going back into the past with you this month.
Thank you, Jude! I have very much enjoyed finding these journeys back in history myself
A great find. I’ve never seen a shepherd’s church before. The South Downs has many lovely places I’ve yet to come across.
Well worth an explore, Mari
Both of these photos are fantastic Sue 😀
It was a marvellous little place, Cee
