A 13th Century Sussex Shepherd’s Church – Past Squares 31

I was in West Sussex this weekend, and my friend and I found some wonderful old rural churches. This one, St Andrews at Didling was a 13th Century shepherds church, nestling at the foot of the Downs, very solitary.

And inside, a very simple church lit only by the light coming through the windows, and candles…so I had to use a very high ISO as it was evening. On the altar cloth were embroidered sheep:

  1. A great find, Sue – and a strong ending to the latest month of squares

  2. I love these simple but beautiful churches and chapels. We saw lots of them in France.

  3. oh isn’t this lovely, you have really captured the age and simplicity. So glad you had a good weekend, and so impressed you squeezed in a final square on your return. That’s dedication!

  4. You just squeezed in under the wire: a great photo to end with.

  5. Lovely to see that so well preserved. Great find, Sue.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  6. How lovely. I have enjoyed going back into the past with you this month.

  7. A great find. I’ve never seen a shepherd’s church before. The South Downs has many lovely places I’ve yet to come across.

  8. Both of these photos are fantastic Sue 😀
