Prehistoric in Malta – Past Squares 18

Another old print from my visit to Malta two decades ago. No idea where it was now:

  1. Oh now this really is giving my distant past a good prod, Sue. I did an undergrad dissertation on this Maltese temple culture and all from the distant outpost of Sheffield uni library. Can’t remember much of what I wrote except it was all very mysterious – how the temple building phase arose and then disappeared. The grainy look of your photo is most apt. The view onto open rocky vista also reminds me of the contention that the prehistoric islanders caused their cultural downfall through deforesting the island which was thought to be heavily tree-covered before the Neolithic. The same argument is also applied to Easter Island. But who knows?

  2. Nice! Seems like one of the temples. Gagantija?

  3. That reminds me of the ancient burial chambers in France and Wales. I never imagined they would be found as far away as Malta! 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

  4. Great composition, Sue!

  5. so much history on this tiny island

  6. One of the few pictures I like in black & white. Seems more fitting somehow.

  7. Cool frame in frame photo 😀

  8. Dare I say I like it, Sue?
