Well, here we are on day 1 of Past Squares… and I shall do my best with fairly regular posts. Seeing Debbie’s post today had me thinking of a trip to Sicily nearly 7 years ago…..how time flies….. I am probably going to revisit past places through my archives that haven’t previously made it on this blog and that way rediscover places that I had forgotten about.
So first to Syracuse and the Ear of Dionysus…a huge cave (23m high at the tallest point) in the ancient quarries of Latomia del Paradiso. This cavity has an s shaped appearance resembling an ear ( I wish I had stood a bit further back to give you the full picture). I recall sounds being magnified to some considerable degree…this place had amazing acoustics:

Linked to Past Squares at Becky’s here
That looks an unforgettable bit of your past!
Well, it is actually, but the images and the detail rather faded until I started looking at the archive photos!
Excellent idea, Sue! I’ll look forward to seeing bits of your past I’ve not seen before. And some stories to go with? 🤗💕
Doubt there’ll be many stories, Jo!
wow what a cave, and I love to think we are going to be walking in your past footsteps over the next month
Hope you will enjoy!
I have every confidence I will given your archives
MySicilian archive isn’t great…. Limited by the fact I wasn’t able to move about anywhere as much as I would have liked….
We need to find you a Zeus or Cronos to carry you into every abandoned building and cave!
Yep!
I think you know how much I love Sicily so your returning to past times there has me quite excited to see what you’ll come up with. The Ear of Dionysus hasn’t disappointed.
Don’t get too excited!
Beautiful photo Sue 😀
Thanks, Cee!
Very interesting, Sue. I have never been there, but would like to go.
Best wishes, Pete.
I wish I had had more time to explore Sicily, Pete
And what did you whisper into Dionysos’ ear?
Nothing, I wasn’t alone!
😉
😄😄
A good start Sue, I shall look forward to seeing what you find in the archives (BTW you put Debbie instead of Becky although the link is correct).
Ooooops
Wow… Sicily! Hope to see more. 🙂
Well, one yesterday, and another tomorrow, and there will be more, Amy!
