This week, Ana Campo of Anvica’s Gallery invites us to consider the theme of Postcards.
Here is one of the first postcards I recall receiving- my parents had gone on holiday when I was about 5 1/2 and my sister 4, and they sent this postcard to us where we were staying with our grandparents. I thought it was so cute, I have never thrown it away!
I still have a number of postcards from friends who visited interesting places, but they are filed away and I can’t lay my hands on them. So instead, I will show you a few varying images from a series of posts I created entitled ‘Postcards from my Past’ and then point you to some of the posts I created back then.

What a sweet postcard from your parents! And so nice that you have kept it for all those years.
A lovely selection, Sue.
Best wishes, Pete.
When I moved 6 years ago, I found the card….amazed I still had it!
Yes, these would have taken my eye in the local shop if I were looking for postcards – that dying form of communication.
A very dying form of communication….
It’s a shame isn’t it? I used to like pinning them on the kitchen board. Mind you, do I send any? I do not.
Well, at least you’re honest!
? I didn’t know I’d said anything confessional! I thought that’s what people did with postcards. My friends did anyway!
You owned up to liking postcards but said you didn’t send any….
Not any more. I used to. When did you last see postcards in a shop?
Quite!!
Great memories. And cute indeed. One of the first postcards I’ve received was also from my parents. I think I still have it somewhere … but where? My parents were holidaying in the Dolomites and sent me a postcard with a nest of chamois eggs, the parent chamois watching over the clutch. I remember that there were lots of discussions whether this was a true depiction or whether chamois antelopes didn’t lay eggs after all among my friends and me. 😁
Oh, what fun!!
Great selections all. The little bears are beyond cute and cool! 😎
Thanks, John! 😊 cute and cool they are!
Oh what a wonderful response Sue 😀
Thank you, Cee!
Beautiful, beautiful – and absolutely wonderful you found that precious card, Sue! So cute.
Pleased you liked it, A C!
A sister, Sue? Love the bears!
😊
A lovely collection Sue. Love those cute bears 🙂 🙂
Thanks, Brian!
I LOOOOVE that post card from your parents that you kept Sue – so adorable and the love comes shining through. How excited you must have been to get your very own mail at that age! Your own postcard images are beautiful as well.
Yay! I think I have another card from the same era sent by a Great Aunt and Uncle…but where it is I don’t know.
I love collecting postcards. They are my holiday souvenirs.
You and me both
oh this is so so cute – so glad you kept it.
There’s a brilliant account on twitter that shares the front of the postcard and one line from the back daily – sometimes they are hilarious.
Yay! Will I see you later?
yup, in seven minutes hopefully or maybe slightly late as have to make a cup of tea and go to the powder room first
😄😄🤣
I’d forgotten the bear cards. My mother in law – Granny Stella – lived in the Lake District and often sent cards from bears to our two young daughters. They’re probably up in the loft somewhere still, pasted into dog-eared scrapbooks. Thank you for the memory.
Glad to have brought back memories!
Beautiful postcards with beautiful memories with them, Sue. I remember those happy days when I received some cards from some pals. Too bad, I do not do it again nowadays.
Thanks for commenting!
You are welcome.
Such a sweet memory, Sue. Years ago, we used to send postcards from everywhere we visited. It took up quite a bit of our holiday time, choosing postcards, writing them and then searching for a post office. They often arrived after we’d returned home. I remember my mom-in-law being rather puzzled to receive a postcard from Spain, 3 months after her friend who’d sent it had died. 😳
Yes, postcards were regularly late….
Pretty awesome that you have postcards still What a nice treasure to have
Thanks, Yvette! I don’t have many, but this one was precious
So precious
😊
What a lovely postcard from your parents!!! I think it’s adorable that you kept it.
And love the “Postcards from my past”, well done.
I was actually amazed when I was clearing out the house when I moved and found the postcard! Pleased you like my Postcards from my Past 😊
