To See a World in a Grain of Sand...
There are certainly some interesting features on that building, Sue.
Best wishes, Pete.
Yes, I was intrigued
Oh yes, so do I! A public building of some kind. Hospital? Almshouse? No, too fancy for that …
Not a clue, I haven’t tracked it down yet….. I know it’s not an almshouse, those are elsewhere in the town, and very un-flash!
They are lovely. And I like that these pediments (is that the right word?) are similar but not completely the same.
Pediments may be the right word, and yes they’re great, aren’t they!
Beautiful home
Not a home, a commercial building!
Ok
I’m wondering how much it has been changed over the years. The upper windows aren’t centred and are offset by different amounts.
Who knows, I can’t find anything
It’s making me think of cottage hospitals, often endowed by someone who wants to make their mark, hence all the decorative features. There’s a not so ornate e.g. in Bridgnorth:

Maybe! There is a simillarity, Tish
Very decorative. Where is this building then?
Midhurst, W Sussex
Apparently it used to be the Silver Horseshoe pub, previously The Three Horseshoes. It looks Victorian / Edwardian?
Number 11 North Street….??
Yup. Old photos 1930 show it as a pub. Can’t find out anything else.
Ah, Ok
However did you find that! I got nowhere…..
Historic buildings of Midhurst and then looked for a photo.
Hmmm…didn’t work for me!
Somehow I think it was something more grand prior to that?
Maybe not. Victorians loved all sorts of architectural styles.
Fair enough
Well found Jude. I was wondering why it had horseshoes on its date plaque. And it’s 1881 or 1889 so a classic Victorian hostelry. A Pizza Express since. And now up for rent it seems.
Your 6 worder prompted a lot of historical enquiry, Sue 😀
Pleased to have got some information!
That’s beautiful, I love all the decoration and the deep red of the brick.
Yes, that’s what appealed, Anabel 😊
I don’t know about the history but I certainly understand the appeal!
😊😊😊
