Just One Person from Around the World: Greece

No apologies for posting this image again.

Seen on the Greek island of Leros, many years ago, one man and his beasts of burden in the blazing midday sun. This image was taken on 35mm slide film and I have to say, that transparency had worn the years well-no weird colour shifts and the digital transfer worked successfully…. I am instantly transported back to that moment in the heat of the arid landscape.

I have never quite worked out what the second donkey was lugging around, poor animal:

  1. That is so Greece 🙂

  2. Definitely no need to apologise for posting this evocative shot. I feel I’m there with you.

  3. I remember that photo, and it is indeed well worth posting again. He is full of character, but I do feel sad for the overburdened donkeys.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  4. We are going to many places in Greece next year! So, can’t wait! I hope I see another gent just like this fellow! Cady

  5. This is a great shot, it looks hot, the second donkey might be carrying water tanks. I always feel sorry for them, especially looking at the size of that stick the man is carrying. I refused the offer of using donkeys to carry my pack when travelling in Greece. I wonder whether that still happens?

  6. Looks like there is nothing to block the sun there. Great photo Sue 😀

  7. I can feel the heat. Both donkeys are carrying quite a load, but the second looks really weighted down. I really like the shot.
