Around a decade ago, I visited the region of Basilica in Italy…..history before us, in the shape of cave dwellings in Matera, only finally abandoned in the late 1950s….

Southern Italy was very impoverished
As was Portugal.
Indeed
It is amazing…… not sure that I will get there now. The list is long, time gets shorter and on top of that we have the CV19 restrictions. Nice to share memories 🙂
It certainly is good to share memories
I probably won’t get there, either, so I enjoyed another look at this fascinating place.

Thanks, Janet!
Now this is history. Fantastic in black and white, I can see all the details. 😀
Many thanks, Cee!
What an amazing picture! You had me at cave dwellings. I wonder how was the experience exploring it since you said it was an abandoned site. Fascinating, indeed.
Matera as a town is still going strong, but most of the cave dwellings are inaccessible. However, a few have been converted as hotels!
