Cobbled street and unrestored medieval buildings in Quedlinburg, eastern Germany, a year or three after the fall of the Wall:
Wish I had taken more images, but that was the days of film, and as I recall it was getting late in the day, light was low and we were hungry…and still quite a way from our destination….
Linked to July Squares at Becky’s here
In many ways film caused us not yo take so many photos we’d have loved to have had. But the ones we do have tend to be more thoughtfully taken. This one’s lovely. Very atmospheric.
Yes, that is true to a good degree. Glad you like this one….
I like stepping back in time with you 🙂 🙂
Yay!
It would be interesting to see this street now.
Well, we returned 8 years later, and here are some images https://suejudd.com/2018/04/18/q-is-for-quedlinburg/
Quedlinburg is supposed to be on of the nicest town in Germany. Still on my bucket list…
Oh, very good – you should go
One of these days…
😊😊
This is like three times in one, Sue. Now, looking at the picture; then, the cars; and back then, the buildings! Love it!
Many thanks, Tom! Glad you enjoyed this one
I am surprised that street survived WW2, but glad it did.
Best wishes, Pete.
loved the recent shots of this wonderful town too!!
Many thanks, Hannah! Well, not so recent, 20 years ago!
wow what a great shot. So evocative . . . . . .
The whole trip was evocative…East Germany was still very much present, so very different from the West, even though the Wall had come down and it was ‘einig Vaterland’ now
I’ve only ever seen the wall, well fence and that really brought it home. Wish I had gone a few years later and visited the other side
Ah, we can all wish
so true
My wish is that I had spent more time there that evening….
But maybe if you had you wouldn’t have such great memories!
Oh, not wistful ones, no, but I would have had very good ones
A very evocative photo in monochrome, Sue.
Yes, I think so….monochrome suited the place at that time
Great blog yoou have
