Well, just one tiny part of their empire. As I have never been to Rome (yes, really…..the closest I got was Fiumcino airport), I thought I would show the interior walkway through another coliseum type thing (at Nimes) –

Gallery, Nîmes ampitheatre.

Your technical descriptions are out of this world! 😉
Well, they take a bit of beating!
I should have said it was the Arena at Nîmes, Arènes de Nîmes
Coliseum thingie is fine!
Teehee!
That’s a very beautiful shot, Sue. And neither have I 🙂 🙂
Ah, well! Glad you liked this image, from the 1980s, scanned from a 35mm transparency
You haven’t been to Rome and I haven’t been to Nimes. On a holiday in the region I chose Arles instead. There is a good amphitheatre at Arles.
I know there is, I’ve been there as well, and walked along a section of the top, because you could, back in the day!
I have been to Rome, the only part of Italy I have ever visited. I have also been to Arles and Nimes, during a long holiday staying with a friend in Marseille. Their arenas are still impressive, but The Coliseum exceeded all my expectations.
Best wishes, Pete.
I’m sure, I remember seeing a photograph my father had taken at the end of the war
Terrific photo 😀
Thanks, Cee,,,taken with a film camera over three decades ago and scanned
Never been to Nimes but it’s on my list for next visit to France (seems to be receding ever further as the news becomes more dismal). Lovely shot.
Nîmes is worth a visit, and the neighbouring Pont du Gard near Remoulins. Yes, I’m wondering whether I shall ever go abroad again….
Love this! Description and all.
Thanks, Anabel! The description got comments!
As well it might 😀!
