My photos from the last 40+ years
I have no idea what I am supposed to see
Tiles on the walls, not just the roof, Brian….and I think you’re winding me up
OK. It all looked regular to me. Not a wind up Sue. 😀
Okey doke! 😊😊
Hanging tiles are roof tiles on the side of a house – usually you only find this type on roofs. We have some on our house
I had told him, Becky…
I can only ask why?
Alternative to fancy brick work or wood, creates a feature whilst covering the external walls
Good description
Probably coz I’ve lived with it for 20years now!
Fair enough!
I guess so. I bet the first time it was done was a mistake or some fancy pants architect “inspiration”
😄😄
Dates back to the 17th century!
You are spot on though with latter with regards to the 19th and 20th century usages

Oh, fascinating, Becky…and the Winchester bit!
That bit confused me! Will have to stand outside later and work out if we have the Winchester cut or not 🤔
Let me know!
I will, may even send a photo!
Oh, do!
just trying to work out how to add them!!
😄😄
Thanks ever so much my research woman xx
😊😊
Hee hee, well had to share a little bit more 🙂
“Usually SQUARE, the lower edge of some of the tiles used is often cut to a different shape and fixed to create a pattern or border.” lol
😄
Have you got nothing else to do apart from read this carefully?!!
😄😄
I am in a sleep clinic doing a sleep study. I am wired head to toe. I hope I can sleep like this
😳
I think I passed 😅😅
?
Won’t know results for a while. Nothing serious just exploring things. Getting older is such a nonsense
Getting older is no fun
In some ways it is but physically it’s not
Indeed….
Really? oh my, but why you looking at a screen if you are meant to be sleeping
Well said, Becky!!
No it was too early to sleep. It was an interesting exercise. I managed to sleep with all the wires attached to my head and body
Well done you!
Impressed. Just one night or do you have to do another night?
Just one and then an assessment next week I hope
Best of luck
i LOVE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
“Like using flatter, sawn battens in place of riven timber, this type of mismatch stands out, not least because of course all plain tiles are of very similar size”
😊😊
We’re just odd!
😄😄😄😂
😂😂
Of course it would be a Winchester thing
“Mention should be made of Winchester cutting. This refers to the way the end tiles are finished at a gable abutment. The normal finish is to cut the end tile at an angle on one side, leaving the other edge perpendicular so that it sits coursed level with its neighbours in the row.”
😊😊😄
I will send you a photograph of mine later and you can tell me if mine have been cut the Winchester way!!
Just a type of external decoration that some like!
Thanks Sue
Yes, it is 🙂 🙂
Good! 😊😊
Yes. I love the dappled shadow.
As I did…
It is a distinctive style indeed. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
It is
It is appealing.
Indeed!
Yes, it most definitely is.
Pleased you like this!
Very appealing. Love the soft and varied shades of terracotta.
Yes, a nice variety of tiles
Right pain when one falls off though!!
Oh, true!
You are all weird…can’t understand a thing… – but love your conversation ♥ Tiles.
Teehee!
Hahaha – teehee is just what I wanted!
Good!!
😊
Thought you had poor internet??
I have – but not every day every hour. I can move to sometimes better areas
Ah, OK!
Happy Midsummer
To you as well!
Thanks!
