Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #100 x The Long and Winding Road

Thinking of long and winding roads I have travelled, both literally and metaphorically…But for this post, just the real roads travelled.

So here are just a few roads I have enjoyed driving on, or being driven on, or walked on.

A winding mountain road in the Vercors, France….some hairpin bends and steep drops:

A weary worker returns from the field in Transylvania, looks like he has a long road ahead:

Finishing work, Transylvania

A horse and cart on a twisty, remote road in rural Transylvania:

A winding road in the mountains of Maramures in Romania

Mountain road, Bucovina, Romania

an ancient Roman road on Kos, Greece

A mountain road in North Wales used by slate miners

Chapel, Drovers Road, Cwmorthin, North Wales

and the ultimate drivers road, the Stelvio pass (I’m driving that car)

  1. Wonderful captures in places I haven’t been! Love the ancient road in Kos because it makes me wonder how it could ever be built with such limited resources as workers had back then. Thanks for sharing these.

  2. A lovely rich variety of routes here. Lovely.

  3. Those scenes from Romania could be 120 years old. Fascinating. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

I took those in 2006, the year before Romania entered the EU….after reading in the paper that it was like going back 200 years.Itreallywas

  4. OMG Sue – that last image of Stelvia, I don’t think I could do it!!! How in heavens name did you ever DRIVE it?!?!? And how did you get the photo?? Excellent choices and as always better late than never!

  5. Wonderful memories, Sue 🙂 🙂

  6. Here’s to when we can start travelling again

  7. I love where you’ve been! Romania, Kos — you’ve been around. Great! Here’s a fun game. How many countries have you visited? (Not an airport layover.)

  8. Memories, treasures – and you in that red car! A smart and dangerous woman…
