Well, I totally forgot to compose this post despite my best intentions, and it’s over a week ago!
So here goes for an example of a High Key image, daffodils on the windowsill against the sky outside

and here, daffodils against a blind with the sun streaming through:
And now we move to Low Key…low light, and a dark background for this decaying peony:

The top one looks like a watercolour, and the last one is back into ‘Dutch Master’ territory. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
Absolutely, Pete! Old Master is the one I’m usually drawn to
I really like these. Proof that high key can we successful and striking.
It can we! I know you mean be
Be, not we!

These still lives are stunning, Sue. Especially the low keys are striking, well done. Lovely editing too.
Windy greetings to you from the coast.
Tank you, Dina! Low key often suits decaying flowers. Breezy but sunny greetings from Surrey!
These are marvelous Sue – I love high key especially and you’ve found the perfect shots for it as well as your low keys
Many thanks, Tina!
Beautiful. Might there be more?
There have been in the past, and maybe some others one day
That would be nice.
😊😊
I like them all. They’re so very different that it makes no choosing easy. 🙂

Thanks, Janet!
Ah, you did a post for me! The high key certainly work best on a pale background but my favourites are still the low key effects and that daisy is simply an exquisite composition as well as colour and light. Thanks Sue.
Pleased you like these, Jude!
High key, superb. Low key and decay, beautiful.
Thanks, Gavin!
Beautiful work Sue. I have always loved your flower photography. You have a real gift for it.
Thank you very much, Suzanne! Much appreciated!
How fabulous . . .really like these. Thank goodness for Freddie’s flowers!
None of these were Freddie’s!
oh!
😄😄😄😂
They are all interesting shots Sue; but the fourth is absolutely stand-out. The composition is really beautiful and the low-key edit is perfect.
I did love that image! Thanks, Su
Ohh, I love the last two! Joy in decay.
Thanks, Manja!
