A taste of France… further to a conversation I had yesterday with Becky, Debbie and Margaret, I got to thinking about books I had by French authors, one of which I had actually read in French, years ago
….and to add to the image, the cup is ‘La tête dans les Étoiles’, a design by Yves Deshoulières, created for the millennium (doesn’t that seem ages ago!)
The light was poor today, I used a wide aperture because I like doing that, but it does, of course, mean you can’t read the book titles, so they are:
Emily L by Marguerite Duras
Un Certain Sourire by Francoise Sagan (in French,a struggle to read!)
The Reprieve, Jean-Paul Sartre
Les Belles Images, Simone de Beauvoir
Suite Francaise, Irène Nemirovsky
I like the commemorative cup, Sue. 🙂
Best ishes, Pete.
Thought you might, Pete
A nice one, Sue. I like the shallow depth of field – works well.
I nearly did a French-inspired one, but can’t fond the book I was after. I’ll dig it out eventually!
I’m intrigued as to what the book is!
Me too. What have I done with all those French books?
😊😊
Of those, I’ve only read Suite Française. But – ahem – in French – it’s actually quite straightforward. The Millennium? Nope, hardly remember that at all.
I ought to try a boook in French again,..so Suite Francaise would be a good one??
I think so. It’s pretty plainly written, and what you see is what you get. ‘Kif kif demain’ is also, despite the argot, simple enough and good fun. And short. Stamina can be a problem for me when reading French.
Stamina is definitely a problem for me, these days
😦
Seriously, it’s true…but a challenge!
I think the shallow depth of field and the blurred covers add, rather than take away, a sense of intimacy. I love paradoxes.
Thanks, Michael!
Now I am at a loss to explain the two cups, one overturned. Another great puzzle for Sherlock.
The overturned cup was for a friend who never turned up….😉😉
and there was I just thinking you had a full cup because of what Debbie said on Saturday!!
Remind me?
she made some comment about finished cups that needed cleaning!
Ach, yes, I remember now!
Good pun.
😊
First time I think I’ve read any of the books you’ve shared! Suite Française and A Certain Smile. In English – I could read French in the past, but not now.
I would struggle now!
I struggled then and now, and would struggle in future too!
Oh my, reading the French version… makes me think of high school French lessons so very long ago and I never was any good at it… interesting composition Sue
Teehee! Glad you enjoyed this, Pauline
Lovely Sue . . . there is something rather wonderful about this one
Thanks, I was pleased with the random scattering!
Loved lSuite francaise” and love your themed coffee and a book.
Thanks, Meg! Stroke of luck that I had that cup!
At last! A coffee cup full of coffee!
Yes, I’m usually at the wrong angle, or only have the dregs still in the cup!
You are having fun, you ladies 🙂 🙂
Ladies?
Chatting 🙂
Oh, right!
