I saw this in the early 80s, when Dresden was still in the DDR. That top photo takes me back. 🙂

Germany and Poland have both been extraordinarily motivated to recreate the iconic buildings they lost in the war. They seem to make a pretty good job of it.
I very much agree! Dresden and Warsaw immediately spring to mind, but there are many, many others
