A great spot Sue. I am always on the look out for shop window pictures just like this.
Currently I am agonising over a decision to go see a bull fight next year. I want to know what makes it special to the Spanish. What do you think?
Stems from the Moorish connections, way back when Andalusia was overrun by the Moors, and it has remained a very Spanish Fiesta…an art form, they say ??
Conscience v Culture. I’ll let you know what I decide. One thing for sure – Kim won’t go with me!
I had wondered that…..!
I have always avoided it though I agree that it is a part of the Spanish culture. I can recommend a cPurple of books if you want to know more before deciding. Ernest Hemingway’s first novel “The sun also rises” and I think Jason Webster has written a non-fiction about it too.
Yes, the Sun also Rises….I must hunt around and see if I still have my copy
It is Hemingway that inspires me to go see!
Indeed so
Thanks for this, Debbie – I am just getting started on Jason Webster’s Spanish Ways (explorations of an enchanted land)….looks a very engrossing read
I went to a bull fight in Maputo (when it was Lourenço Marques) which was Portuguese and where they do not kill the bull (in the ring). (I’m not even sure if they still do now in Spain). It was quite interesting to see the matadors perform, but I didn’t like it much when they started putting the swords/daggers into the bulls. I get the impression that many Spaniards don’t attend bull fights much now.
Hmmm
I spoke to some people in Spain who said that young people don’t go to bullfights, only the older folk so bullfighting will stop naturally without intervention.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Ah, that sounds very likely…..
A fine capture of a bull indeed.
I saw bullfights in southern France and northern Spain in my teens.
I went as the trips were organised for our group, but I found them rather distasteful, to be honest. Perhaps you have to be a local to fully appreciate them?
Best wishes, Pete.
I would say you need to have grown up in that Southern European culture…..
Thanks, John, glad you enjoyed these
Very powerful!!!!
I love the feeling of movement here. We have a big black bull in the field behind us at the moment, not sure he has any horns though.
The sheer energy of this bull appealed….
I wouldn’t like to have him chase me 🙂 🙂
No, nor me!!
I love the painting. I was tempted to go to a bull-fight once, but T was very against it, and I didn’t want to go alone. I don’t think I could bear it now.
Well, I’ve never seen one
well he is a fine specimen . . . . so glad you only saw pictures though.
Well, precisely, Becky!
