When I was very young, we used to go around pressing the buttons and feeling inside the tray, to see if anyone had forgotten to retrieve their pennies. 🙂

How evocative this is! So many phone calls made from similar. There’s still a phone box in Potato Point – never thought to photograph it.

I don’t know about British phone boxes but German ones used to have a very peculiar smell … your photo is very evocative.
