Separated in Space and Time

On Wednesday, whilst taking photographs in Brick Lane, I saw this girl, unfortunately defaced by tagging:

I commented that I had seen a very similar image some years ago, which led me to scour through the archives. And here’s what I found – unquestionably the same girl – I saw this image in a courtyard somewhere near Liverpool Street, back in March 2014.

Ain’t memory a strange thing? It was that inimitable expression that did it, I think… the ‘streaks’ of her hair. I think she had been a victim of amendments – that yellow ear looks alien.

  1. I always think it is sad to see very good street art defaced and often ruined by tags. You might think such hard work would get more respect from taggers. I suspect they envy the talent, like spoilt children.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. I can understand the work being memorable or you 😀

  3. Can never understand tagging vandals, like mangy dogs marking their territory but worse, unable to appreciate beauty in any form.

  4. Such a beautiful piece of art, just sad about it being defaced like that. But its special to come across the same piece years and places apart!!

  5. She’s lovely, in a fierce, slightly scary way 🙂 🙂

  6. She is very striking, especially with the yellow ear. 🤣

  7. What an amazing memory you have Sue. But it is very striking

  8. The taggers have no talent and don’t want to be reminded of that, destructive idiots.
