A decade or so ago I came across the films of the late Andrei Tarkovsky, after visiting the great gothic abbey of San Galgano which entailed a fair journey from where we were staying, but I was determined to see it:
The abbey featured in the final scene of Tarkovsky’s film Nostalghia.
Aquainting myself with Tarkovsky’s films some years later, I discovered his love for a tiny hamlet in Tuscany, and decided to find it. It also featured in the film Nostalghia.
We visited it on a spring day, and it was beautiful.

Bagno vignoni on a late Spring day
… But I was after atmosphere. On a very wet March day, I was back in Tuscany, and in the evening arrived at Bagno Vignoni to see the sulphur bath steaming slightly….nicely eerie

Evening at Bagno Vignoni
The idea was to capture the bath early next morning, but alas, I didn’t quite time it right and was slightly later than I would have liked

Early morning in March, Bagno Vignoni
but finally, I did get some steam floating over the water

steam off the sulphur bath, Bagno Vignoni
and looking the other way, steam wafting over the buildings
I can see myself now, taking those images, and breathing in the atmosphere of the place. A most enchanting place, and the B&B was good, too!
These are gorgeous, Sue – and your persistence and determination is admirable. And you got what you wanted – well done – they are atmospheric and the whole scenery is as taken from a movie. As it is too!
Many thanks, Ann Christine! It was a wonderful set of experiences… You are right about my persistence!
;-D
😊😊
I can see why the place enchanted you, Sue.
(I watched ‘Ivan’s Childhood’ again recently.)
Best wishes, Pete.
One I haven’t seen….
How exciting, Sue. My kind of travel!

Ohh, great! Lovely photos. I didn’t know about Tarkovski, so good that you told us this. Will explore, the film and Bagno Vignoni. I was passing it once yet but we only had a little look and continued to Vignoni Alto. Why, I wonder.
Great! Do explore the films, and that hamlet!
Lovely photos and memories Sue 😀
Many thanks, Su!
Fabulous and so atmospheric 🙂
Thanks very much, Gilly…it was so atmospheric
Lovely photos Sue and lovely memories. You are one determined lady 🙂
I think I’ve always been determined, which stands me in good stead now! Wednesday was Brick Lane in a wheelchair, and it worked really well!
It’s good you are getting about though I am sorry to hear that your balance is so badly affected.
Balance and muscle weakness…but hey, I still get about!
Your copyright does a great disservice to the photos.
Ah well!
