I remember it as if it were yesterday….. / 4

I know I have shown this image more than once before, but it is one of the places that really made an impression on me….because I had searched it out, because motor racing has always been a passion of mine, and because there it was, available to explore at will, no restrictions and no ‘prettying up’…WYSIWYG ….  (a few years ago it was repainted and fenced off…lucky me, I saw it at the right time)

I can see us coming upon this neglected, overgrown abandoned place, in what seemed to be in the middle of nowhere….what a sight!

Ruined pit building at Reims-Geux

In my mind, I could hear those Coopers, Lotuses, shark-nosed Ferraris hurtling around the track…. the roars of the crowd in the grandstand from where I took this photograph…..

Now that 1960s pit building, and the grandstands have gone, as has the ghost that I saw…..

  5. Wonderful image and memories, Sue – very envious that got to see Rheims in action. I was a few years behind you – by the time I got to the French GP it had moved to Clermont Ferrand – an equally spectacular, lost venue. An entirely different sport in those days.
