Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #23: Celebrations

I didn’t think I had anything for this prompt, then realised I did, actually.

Tanjaua in Maramures, Romania

An ancient agrarian custom celebrating the first person out to plough the land. He is ceremoniously taken to the river by a procession and accompanied by young men carrying 12 decorated cart poles called “tânjele” (used to yoke cattle) and by musicians. A very lively, noisy, happy event!

Tanjaua, traditional agricultural festival in Horteni, Maramures

It was a very lively procession!

Next up, drawing lots for the Palio, Sienna, Italy

We had arrived in Siena one evening when they were drawing lots for the Palio (more info here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palio_di_Siena). The hotel man suggested I leg it down to the main square, where I would be just in time…

Off I went to find a packed square, a raucous appreciative crowd, and an interesting spectacle.

  7. Wow you saw the Palio Sue!

  8. Crowded celebration 🎉Oh what fun.

  9. Wow, love to see people having a good time. Wish we stopped creating new problems and digging up the old ones, but went out and celebrated together each other’s feasts and joy.
