This week, Patti has asked us to look up. I have decided on a theme, and my images for this post are all from Romania.
On a trip to Romania some years ago, I looked up and spotted a number of storks in the sky
…and here was a moment when I looked up and saw a mother stork and her brood:
And now we move to manmade things….
I spotted these ‘eyes’ in the rooves of Sibiu:
Here’s the castle of Rasnov on the hillside above me in Transylvania:
and here here are a figure and a shadow in the archway above me in Sighisoara
Linked to Lens-artist’s photo challenge here
Very intriguing shots, Sue. I’ve never seen storks up close. They look huge. And the “eyes” in the roof are a bit eerie, aren’t they?
Storks are a fair size…I had seen them in Alsace, and then Romania…and agreed, the roof eyes were a little unsettling!
Good choice for nailing the theme, Sue. I have seen storks in Marrakesh, roosting on the Medina Gate.
They were very big! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
Many thanks, Pete! This was an easy one for me, Pete….I seem to have spent a lot of time looking up in the past! Not so much now….I have to look down to see where I’m going!!
Great idea Sue! Especially liked the shot with the shadow – very foreboding. We have wood storks here. They are beautiful in flight but not so much on the ground 🙂
Many thanks, Tina…glad you liked these
The variety is nice and that is some nest! Oh and the eyes are just clever – I bet it only brings a little bit of light in (better than none up in that area) and do you know why they make the windows slitted like that?
Glad you like these! The roof Windows would have been that shape because of limited space, perhaps
I think that sounds like a good reason – and they look more weather proof as well…
a design for storms maybe
Perhaps!
Great shots of storks and buildings of Romania, Sue, a country where even roofs have eyes!
I was so pleased to see the storks up close!
We were so intrigued by the storks’ nests in Romania. I learned to look up more. Wish I could have seen roof eyes, too!
The architecture was interesting
I’ve never seen storks, so enjoyed those pics. The eyes and buildings are fantastic too.
Pleased to have given you a glimpse of storks…
The last one, the figure and shadow, I don’t get it? what’s it a shadow of?
Not the faintest clue! It was only when I sorted through my images that I saw it….so your guess is as good as mine, Gilly!
Some great ups Sue
Taken in the days when I would look up with impunity!
The eyes have it!
Absolutely!
Great Look ups, Sue! In fact we had 3 storks here this summer, just some hundred meters from where I live. I was rather shocked, in fact. They usually live further south in Skane. Lovely animals.
Oh goodness!
Being a brainbird I enjoy your first photo the most
😀
Very nice captures these are, Sue 🙂
Thank you!
