Trains and tracks in Black & White

Thought I would post for Cee’s Black and White Challenge this week, Trains and Tracks

Cheating, because I’m using images that have been in previous posts

First up, an old image taken by my father, trains in a past era, early days of diesel and electrified lines:

Railway lines and overhead lines, early 1960s?

Seen in  Romania a decade or so ago:

Off to catch the train

The Hungarian Express, 20 years ago:

Working on the locomotive

Train tracks out of Waterloo as the sun is getting low in the sky, early 1980s:

tracks leading home

Abandoned tunnels of the Welsh Highland Railway in the 1980s….this line is now restored, with trains running again:

Welsh Highland Railway circa 1984

Well, I think that covers it!

  1. Love that old Hungarian train. Like something from WW2!
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. These photos are of historical value. But apart from that they conjure up feelings of nostalgia. I liked the click·e·ty-clack, the screeching of the iron wheels on the tracks, the whistle from the locomotive and the steam and the smoke of a bygone era. Thanks for bringing them back to me (perhaps not intended), Sue!

  4. Certainly covered it very nicely Sue

  5. I think can help with the date of the top photo Sue. Almost certainly pre-1964 as none of the locomotives present have yellow warning panels on the front – the panels started being applied in 1962. The two electric locomotives are, right to left, Class AL3 built by English Electric and Class AL2 built by AEI – they entered service from mid-1960 to mid-1962. Behind them is an English Electric Type 4 D200 class diesel.

  6. np Sue and thanks for sharing some great shots 🙂

  7. Nice, I like the light and shadows in “tracks leading home”
