I thought I would show willing for Jo’s Monday walk today….not much of a walk, just a little perambulation, but hey! I didn’t get a map of the place so this is all guess work, invention and incomplete, but do we care?
You set out from the Visitor Centre, and the garden slopes away in front of you. Extensive lawns to your left, and views across the Weald ahead of you, on a clear day.,.which it wasn’t, as it was decidedly mizzly and dull on the day we went, as you can see from this image I took from inside the house:
The winding path from the Visitor Centre eventually brings you below the lake, and there is a nice view here:
Then we come to walled garden, with abundant planting
Beside it is what I believe was originally Lady Churchill’s Rose Garden
Step closer, and you can see the house in front of you.
and at this time of year there is a lovely Chinese Wisteria, full of scent:
…never know what these are
Looking further over towards the house, I spied a door in the wall, behind the Ox- eye daisies at the top of the steps
..back down the steps, and out of the Rose Garden
A little further along and we come to the terrace in front of the house, with good views on a fine day, but no images today. There is a nice sitting area under a sort of colonnaded bit, and I liked this little window
Oh, and somehow I have missed the kitchen garden (no images), but leaving that area, you get a good view back towards the fruit trees:
After this, we went into the house (no images)
