In the Mountains

On a horse and cart ride in the Tatra mountains on a dull, wet day, I took a few images, and this one gives me a good sense of place – the craggy mountains, the snow, trees and typical architecture of the buildings:

A tad oppressive, don’t you think? I would love to see this area in sunny weather!

  1. Oppressive? It looks mystical and alluring to me.

  2. Reminds me of the original Richard Doyle illustrations to John Ruskin’s fairytale ‘The King of the Golden River’, very atmospheric

  3. Yes very atmospheric 🙂

  4. Love it anyway – but I agree about seeing the place in sunshine!

  5. Yes, I think sunshine would lift spirits here – it feels rather hemmed in by darkness

  6. I forgot to ask how you liked the place? That’s a wonderful image xx

  7. A bit too gloomy for my taste, but very beautiful all the same!

  8. I was there in winter and there was sparkling sunshine many days. It’s a spectacular landscape, though, however it’s clad, and your photo says many things about it.

  9. Despite the gloom, it is very atmospheric. Especially the mist-shrouded peak.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  10. Some years ago I heard on the car radio a piece of music by Novak….”In the Tatra Mountains”. It left an image and impression so much so I found the play list and the ordered a CD. It is one of my favourite pieces of music for creating calm and peace. Never been or seen the Tatra for real yet feel an affinity with them ….the power of music 🙂

  11. Typical mountain weather! We have to cope with what the Gods give us…

  12. It looks very moody here, but I’m glad you liked it anyway. When I stopped in at Telluride, Colorado during my drive along the San Juan Scenic Byway, it was rainy and gloomy and I felt a little depressed. But when I woke the next day, the sunshine put it in a whole different light (literally and figuratively!).

  13. Great contest between the misty mountains and the heavy solid architecture with the rows of rough shingles.
Looks like a place that sits back and gets to know you before giving up it’s secrets and enchantments
