J is for Jameos del Agua

J is for Jameos Del Agua, which is located in the north of Lanzarote. It is part of a cave system in the island’s volcanic rock (the Atlantida volcanic cave system) formed by the eruptions of a volcano about three to four thousand years ago.

Inside the cave, which has a collapsed roof, is a salt water lake (Jameo Chico). This lake contains a species of tiny blind albino crab that is unique to this place. I found the cave with its lake to be very photogenic, and spent some time trying to get images that gave me a sense of this cave, but alas failed to capture images of the minute crabs!

  1. I love that first picture, with all the people glowing as they walk down to the cave.

  2. Even with all the tourists, it is still a magical place. Lovely shots, Sue.
(I have never been to The Canaries)
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Amazing colors in that first shot, Sue. They hardly look real. That shot would make a great puzzle.

  4. I really liked this place, Sue, but I have heard it described as ‘tacky’! No pleasing some folk. 😦 I absolutely love that first shot. You can feel the heat outside. I’d love to be there right now. It’s dismal here!
