I may or may not be approaching this the right way… Paula has asked us to show a variation of the same theme. as I am currently trying to look at the potential of some of my images in monochrome, I thought I would apply that here.
This is an image I took in Berlin a few decades ago:
And here it is after a once over:
…a dull, wet, grey day to my mind comes over more in monochrome.
Linked to Thursday’s Special at Paula’s here
The weather does come over better in B&W. In the colour shot, the umbrellas and damp ground are the only clues.
Best wishes, Pete.
Well, I think I’ve got the gloom in monochrome!
I agree. The monochrome version makes me sense the gloom whereas the one in colour just informs me it’s a gloomy day. It’s interesting that you picked this particular picture, Sue.
I find monochrome transmits much more emotion than colour!
You did not approach it the wrong way, and I was supposed to post after and before challenge too, but it will have to wait. I so appreciate this share of Berlin. The human standing at the bottom of the sculpture in spite of rain makes this image special – in both editions. Now, I must dash (I am not really here. need to take as much arm rest as possible) Thank you for doing this so promptly, Sue. See you soon. xx
Thanks for coming back to me so quickly, Paula! Pleased you like my post 😊😊
It’s much better in black and white, isn’t it, Sue? I don’t like the colours much at all. And Paula’s always open to your own interpretation. I wasn’t sure, either. 🙂 🙂 Had a good Thursday?
The colours are probably a bit odd, as the slide had degraded a bit…. As to my Thursday, dentist this morning but a cup of tea and chat with a friend this afternoon!
Nicely done, Sue! I did not fully understand this prompt, so I left it out…Maybe I should give it a try anyway?
Oh, I think you should, A C!
I just posted – hope it is what she wants…
I’m sure she will…I’ll take a look shortly
Well, she’ll be happy you’ve posted, and will be interested to see our different interpretations!
I love the black and white–
Many thanks!
Mono makes it timeless, which is so nice 🙂
Thank you, Lynn!
Monochrome certainly suits this grey old day
😀😀
cool to see the photos side by side – and I have to go with the color one as a preference -t he building yellow and red umbrella almost seemed like you edited it – and the little floral and flow of the the umbrella lady’s skirt adds something –
and you are right – the mono has a drab vibe – but still a great image 🙂
Thank you!
🙂
Is it possible to be contemporary and timeless at once? that’s what the black and white version is to me, so it wins.
Perhaps the monochrome has rendered the contemporary timeless?? 🤔
Yes, for me it’s the B&W image
Thanks!
