Thursday’s Special: Your best photo in 2017

Paula has asked us to choose just one image from this year as a favourite….tricky. I don’t have just one favourite. so this is how I will play it….

Not a favourite image, not a particularly good image, but one that really got me thinking about how to craft a Still Life, and got me really appreciating the importance of light. Yes, really… OK, I’ve taken photographs for yonks and a day, but I seriously don’t think I often really ponder the light in a Still Life composition –  the direction, the quality.

So this was perhaps the best in terms of a learning…

  1. A still life! Good choice, Sue.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. You do them very well, Sue -thought out or not xx

  3. All right. Light. Can I focus on that a bit in 2018? This one is a beauty, and I like the way you frame it as learning, and learning as “pondering”.

  4. I remember well those flowers and the tin box. Some of your best photos this year Sue.

  5. Beautiful still life! Love it! Best wishes for 2018!

  6. The very valid reasons for choosing this one, and you have no idea how much I appreciate this share. When I think of light and your images, the first thing that comes to mind are your street shots in narrow alleys with a solitary human figure and a long shadow. This one is special cause you had to think about the light in a “controlled” environment. I think I have said it before – I really love when you photograph books 🙂 Maybe the book for 2018 only hold good stories for you!

  7. Beautifully captured. 😀

  8. so beautiful. Happy New Year. Thank you, Love, nia

  9. You are a master with placement and light Sue and this is perfect
