Traces of the Past: Y3-10

A trace of a relatively recent past, abandoned in the 1960s:

The overhangingness and the staringness are unnerving’ Elizabeth Bowen, A time in Rome

  1. The birds in the sky on that top photo lend real atmosphere to the shot.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. Love the quote, and the birds give it a Hitchcock-y feel. A nice bit of disaster tourism, if that’s not a contradiction.

Nice and disaster, it must be said, are something of uneasy bedfellows….
Glad you like the quote, I wrote it down when I was reading Bowen’s book, knowing I would like to use it one day. As for the birds, they made the image

  3. The first image looks like a surrealist painting and those birds came by at the perfect moment.

  4. I had to go back to look for the birds! The Internet is loadind so slowly I’m almost asleep and it started with your second photo, which is my prefered shot. 🙂 🙂

  5. I was going to say that this is a fascinating part of Italy, but come to think of it – all parts of Italy are fascinating to me. The first shot with birds above is captivating, Sue. I wish I could stay longer here, but work is stressing again.
