Just a couple from the archives, not the best examples, but perhaps something a little different. First up, from a mosque in Turkey:
…and the end wall and part of the ceiling from a wooden church in Maramures, Romania:

I particularly love the first one for the faintness of the lines and the pattern.
Yes, it looks almost abstract, airy, doesn’t it?
I like them both. Obviously need a ceiling with a lot of detail to work in black and white.
Agreed! These both look better in colour, but do still succeed in monochrome
Great ceilings, such intricate work. Nice shots Sue.
Many thanks, Fraggle! Glad you like these
The first one is almost dizzying, Su. I think I’d prefer the second in color, as I can imagine how lovely it must be.

You are right, the second is best in colour….
very beautiful
Thanks, Gavin!

If it were in colour, I would probably fixate on colour, but now I am looking for a story on the church’s ceiling. These are terrific examples. Many thanks, Sue. I love the mosque’s abstract theme.
Those wooden churches are marvellous – the interiors painted with biblical scenes for the illiterate faithful in years gone by….
Magnificent detail and intricacy. B/W works very well here.
Many thanks, Draco!
Is the ceiling of the Maramures church also wood? You’ve sent me searching for mosque ceilings I may have from Turkey!
The entire church is wood. As for the moaque ceiling, the image was taken looking up through a chandelier type thing
I imagine the frescoes stunning in colour. Reminds me- I have some I never did use from Florence. 🙂 🙂 I’d done so many posts I thought it time to move on. Torn between a spider’s web and a parasol for the first, Sue. Good weekend? You feeling relatively fit?
Those painted scenes are very faded now, but still captivating! Good weekend socially, but I’m not walking very well now, really annoying me….
No fun sitting about all day 😦
Oh, I’ve been doing a bit of washing, hoovering etc to get me out of the chair!!
Don’t remind me! 🙂 🙂
Heehee!
