Time to have another project, because my ‘One’ series images are becoming depleted… So with apologies to the late Dame Rose Macaulay for nicking her book title for this series, here goes.
These will be purely random dips into my past. This all came about as I was entranced by Tina Schell’s images of a ruined church in Charleston, which for some reason put me in mind of Netley Abbey near Southampton, Hampshire, UK, and set me off on this little flight of fantasy:
I have had a lovely virtual stroll around the old abbey, brought back memories of a beautiful sunny early autumn day five and a half years ago…… All I have to do now is decide where to go next!
Beautiful shots!
Thank you very much!
Nothing like old ruins to set the imagination working about what they might have been like at one time.
Nice work, Sue.
Best wishes, Pete.
Imagining what they might have been like at one time, or drinking in the beauty, the mystery of decay and the pull it has on the senses…
Great idea for a theme, Sue. And a good start to your project. Lots of texture and marvellous arches.
Many thanks, Debs! It was a great visit, and as you say, full of texture and some fabulous arches!
refreshing a photo theme with ruins! shabby chic does wabi sabi or that’s what ruins conjure for me – they are so alluring. I can visualise the people from the past walking here
Glad you like this post, Laura – there will be more!
Beautifully rendered, Sue. Thanks for ruining my day. 🙂 Have a marvelous weekend.
janet
I take it you like a bit of Wabi Sabi….. 😀 Have a lovely weekend, Janet
They’re lovely, Sue! Great in black and white. Have a good weekend. Off I pop to see what Tina’s been up to. 🙂 🙂
Many thanks, Jo! Have a lovely weekend – off to Bristol is it?
Yes, but it’s not going to plan, Sue. It’ll be fine when I get there. 🙂
Fingers crossed….
I like these ruins.
They are rather lovely….
I like the way you haveprocessed these so that the images themselves look like relics from the photographic past.
Thank you, Suzanne! That was my intention, glad it worked…
This project will be rich in pleasures, although I’m sorry to farewell One. I love the framing of these photos – it adds to a sense of antiquity. And I’m sure Dame Rose would be honoured. This is a lovely collection – don’t use your supply up too quickly!
Oh, One isn’t finished…three more to come from Cuba, then a few more from my recent trip, and there will be others to come, I’m sure! Oh, and I’ll try not to whizz through the ruins! Alas, some are in my head only as I didn’t have a camera at the time, so no Abergynolwyn, no Porth y Nant…..but nearly five decades ago they remain as memories….
even so beautiful in decay
But of course!
Always love to explore an old Abbey….they are all different (maybe because of the location/setting) but all have that familiar feel to them. And they all exude that feeling of somewhere special. 🙂
They have a majesty about them, don’t they?
Wonderful!!!
Thank you!
These are just beautiful Sue – so glad to have inspired you!!! I know I need to revisit the church shots in B&W or sepia – and your shots reinforce that!!
Many thanks, Tina! Glad to have been of inspiration in my own way! Look forward to seeing your images in sepia…..
Great photos Sue, really liked the forth and last photo.
Arches…yes, they came out well
