Black & White Sunday: Darkness and Light

Today, Paula has invited us to “look for some light and shadow, for drama, for moody or even harsh lighting. The theme of this black and white photo challenge is DARKNESS and LIGHT.”

I have previously posted some images that would fit this bill, most notably this one, which I make no apologies for showing again:

But there are more, as I do like a bit of Noir. First up, the WW1 fort at Douaumont, where darkness was particularly true:

And this one that I happened on at a small abbey in Surrey some years ago:

  1. The last shot is spectacular.

  2. The first two remind me of the film The Third Man. All spot on topic, Sue.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  9. I was hoping you would produce something beautiful as this. The first one is from Tcheque republic – probably my favourite shot on your blog. Do I recall it right? Thank you, Sue. It’s nice to be in sync with other bloggers, isn’t it 🙂

  10. Each has an eerie and mysterious quality.

  11. Ooh, that last one has me squealing! Is that you in cabaret, Sue? 🙂 🙂 No, seriously, I like it very much, though that first is one of your very best.
I’ll leave the link to Julie on here. I know Paula doesn’t much like people cluttering up her comments with chit chat (unlike some people we know 🙂 ) https://jdriso.com/

  12. Just being places gets us great shots and these are no exception Sue. Love them all.

  13. Didn’t the photographer or the model mind you catching a sneaky one?

  14. WOW!! Amazing pictures Sue !!!!

  15. That third one is so dramatic, Sue, and different from your usual (although those are all excellent, too.)

  20. Stunning shots! Love that last one with the backlight through her wings!

  21. No need to apologize stunning photos. And they do fit right into the theme. They are very dramatically lit. Beautiful.

  22. Superb shots, Sue. What a piece of luck being there at the right moment for that last one, too. 🙂

  23. 3 lovely photos. It looks like you came across a model shoot in that last one. That’s always a fortuitous occurrence.

  24. Amy

Great shots, Sue! In awe with the last one. 🙂

  25. Love the last one, the the first one too… great shots

  26. Emilio Pasquale

You got me on the first shot. I love film noir and the first reminds me of The Third Man. Just something about a single person in shadow that seems so emotional to me. Excellent.

  27. Very beautiful contrast with light
