Calla lily in gentle light

For Wordless Wednesday, I posted a monochrome image of a Calla lily that had been lit by strong sunlight coming from the side. Yesterday, I took an image of the same flower in much weaker sidelight…. gone are the strong shadows, but you still get the impression of the curves of the flower:

Here’s previous image for comparison:

So which do you prefer? Drama or subtlety? Incidentally, both images were processed on my iPad…I need to process them on the Mac for better results.

  1. I like the dramatic one best myself, but they are both good in their own way.
    best wishes, Pete.

  2. Both lovely fluid shots, but I’m with the dramatic too!

  3. Oh, those curls and shadows. I like the second one, where they are much clearer. I prefer it without the case too.

  4. Love both in different ways..
The first could be the portrait of a delicate sculpture…while ,In the other shot , no doubt there a live flower…
Love that dark background and how you chose the lights…Just awesome!

  5. Both are beautiful but the strong simplicity of your original image gets to me. Reminiscent of Mapplethorpe?

  6. I prefer Wednesday’s but todays makes you look closer.

  7. ‘Simply’ beautiful Sue!

  8. I was sure I had commented on this one before. Sorry, Sue. Like you, I enjoy the one without strong shadows. A beautiful nude of a flower!
