For Black & White Sunday, Paula asked us to show an image converted to monochrome, and the original image. I’m just a few days late, but here goes, for a moment in time (shown previously in one of my Warsaw posts):
…and here is the original in colour. the colour distracted from the shadow and patterns, I felt.
see what others posted here.
I like it in B&W. The red backpack is distracting in the colour shot. The other one draws me in to the pattern in the paving, and the shadows.
Best wishes, Pete.
Precisely! Glad you agree, Pete 🙂
That’s a yes from me too for b’n’w. A touch of red in an otherwise monochrome-ish pic (as in Raoul Dufy’ art or the little girl in ‘Schindler’s List’) is good for drawing the eye, but here the cyclist distracts from the composition as a whole, it draws attention to his movement which is … lacking an obvious goal.
To add to your list – the red coat in Nic Roeg’s Don’t Look Now

In B&W I can focus better on the pattern in the pavement and shadows that are more functional in the image. Excellent choice of the photo for edit. Thank you, Sue.
Thanks, Paula – glad you liked!
You get so much in each image, it always amazes me how different the feel is for each.
True!
I agree! 🙂 I was going to have a go at this one but as usual I’m out of time.
You have until Saturday, Jo! (And were yo impressed by the abseiling over the sea?) 😉
I have to admit I was quite impressed, Sue 🙂 I was thinking Thursday, so thanks for that. Not sure what/if I’m posting tomorrow but I’ll be on the early train To Edinburgh.
Oh, have a great time! Hugs aplenty
B&W for me, too, Sue.

Good girl!
Could be fun to do an edit where just the red shows up and the rest is B&W.
All that texture cries out for monochrome!
Totally agree, Gilly!
Yes, it definitely works better in B&W. Nice shot, Sue. 🙂
Thank you, Sylvia!
Love the coloured version, but prefer the B&W one!
Thanks!
oh yes, the black and white does it for me! Fantastic light, shadow and patterns!
Thank you, Susan! The shadows were why I took the image in the first place!
The BW does emphasize the patterns. Those shadows are striking and wonderful
Thanks, Phil!
What a choice, if I have to choose. Two totally different sets of pleasures.
Thanks, Meg! Glad you like
I really liked the monochrome version, make it look very classy:)
Ooh, classy will do nicely, thank you!
Nice choice for a B&W Sue.
Glad you agree, Cardinal!
