Red Door

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is Door.

I have a good few images of doors taken over the years, but I am posting a recent find today, a door with a history. The Brick Lane Music Hall used to be in Brick Lane, in the East End of London.  So far, so predictable. Except this door is in Silvertown, on the banks of the Thames some distance away from Brick Lane as the company moved to different premises (in the former St Mark’s Church, Silvertown). They retained the old name.

Apparently, this is the door to the only remaining Music Hall in the country (England)!

  2. One for the attention of Roy Hudd, methinks!
It;s a nice door though Sue, and goes well with the brickwork of the arch above.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  7. I wonder what happened to the church door?

  8. Speaking of history, Sue! I love the way the stones are in harmony with the color of the door. And such a beautiful arch. Lovely!
*hugs* have an amazing weekend, dear.

  9. What a beauty! And that arch! Lovely red bricks, blue bricks, buffs and yellows. I wonder if they are real London bricks?

I have no idea, Jude! And I can find very little about the architecture of this place, other than that it was built in 1861-2 by the Victorian architect S. S. Teulon, whoever he was. Apparently he was known for his use of polychrome brickwork….

  10. That is a stunner of a door Sue and with the fab typography too , just perfect!

  11. This is a cheerful looking door. Hard to believe it is the door to the only remaining music hall in the hole country. I appreciate this share 🙂

  12. May it remain and let the music ring!

  13. This is a very balanced composition as well as being a very nostalgic door. I like the touch of bunting that you left along the top it sort of enhances the story of the door…

  14. fantastic Sue. I can hear the music!

  15. Two thumbs up to you for this one Sue!! Loved it – an excellent and interesting choice.

  16. Wonderful door, Sue. The text too. Brings back something from my childhood, i believe…
