Early Bird sees the Centre

This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is Early Bird and over at Where’s my Backpack, Ailsa wants us to show ‘Centre’ for the Weekly Travel Theme. Some years ago a friend and I went to Tuscany for a few days in March. The reason for a visit so early in the year was to be in Bagno Vignoni to see the steam coming off the sulphur bath in the early morning (it needs to be cold weather). All as the result of watching a film of Andrei Tarkovsky’s….(Nostalgia)

So here is a view of the sulphur bath in the centre of the hamlet of Bagno Vignoni as seen by this early bird before 7am…

  1. So did you get in the baths? Only reason I’d get up that early!

  2. Nice atmosphere, shame they’re not open any longer.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. What a shame they’re not longer open! Lovely images, Sue.
Have a good start in the new week,

  4. We were here in the fall Sue. My understanding was that although this center square is closed there is a bath house one can go to. Is that correct?

Nicely captured Sue and all the better for being an early bird ! Guess in the past it must have got rather crowded at times in and out …

The story re: the early bird is that I overslept a tad, my friend heard me mutter an expletive, sling my clothes on and dash out with camera……. It would have np been even more spectacular half an hour earlier – or maybe not, as it was a tad cloudy

  6. Recognised this place straight away, just down the road from San Querico d’Orcia if I am not mistaken. Lovely area and thank you for the reminders. MM 🍀

Great, glad you like! It was wonderful to see that mist in the early morning, I was really pleased it worked out as we were only in Bagno for one night……

  7. A mysterious photo, with an almost Medieval feeling to it. Love it. What a pity it’s not open any longer.

  8. Superb photo, Sue. I wonder if that sulphur bath is as hot as the sulphur pools in Yellowstone National Park. 😕

  9. Beautiful early morning light and mood, perfectly framed!

  10. That’s a really enchanting picture!
