Experimenting with Chiaroscuro

Having a play with the camera today, trying to get the effects I want in camera with spot metering. I wanted to retain just enough detail in the shadow area and also not blow the highlit areas.

I then made some small adjustments in post-processing with Viveza, and next I chose a low key effect in Silver Efex, added my own adjustments, and here it is…I like it, does anyone else?

  1. It works for me, because I get the feel of a very old photo; perhaps a Daguerreotype, or similar vintage.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. I love it! But then I love the subject matter. But yes, the light and shadows work extremely well.

  3. Suzanne

    It’s very effective

  4. You’ve certainly achieved what you set out to do Sue – the little blighter’s very protective of that ball isn’t he 😉

  6. Yes, perfect low key finish for this subject. Lovely!

  7. It’s absolutely beautiful, Sue, and as Jude says, the subject matter is flawless. I’m always curious to know how it looked before you started out. 🙂

  8. You are so good at this – I like it.
