Moving to some more recent images, after the last three from the past. last year I started taking images with street art in the frame, trying to make my own story from the juxtaposition of passers-by and the art. At some stage I may get around to showing some of my earlier ones, but for now I shall concentrate on some taken end of last year to present. Most of them will be from the Spitalfields area of London.
This was a very lucky moment, and I had to grab the shot fast, so much so that the passer-by isn’t totally sharp….but for me, so much of this falls into place. I converted it to monochrome because it seemed in keeping with the strange futuristic ‘things’ (which were themselves in grey/silver paint anyway).

That is quite extraordinary, Sue. I had to look a few times as the whole image looked like an etching.
Thanks, Francesca! It does look a bit like an etching, doesn’t it. Glad you liked it 🙂
Beautifully processed. The poor man looks as though he is being attacked by aliens!
Exactly! He’s wandered, quite innocently, into some ‘other world’ …
Your art is fabulous…I love the direction you are taking. I am anxious to see more of your images.
Many thanks for your comment, Charlie. I am hoping to show one of these Street images each week….whether this will actually happen, who knows? But I hope you like some of them.
Now that’s a wonder juxtaposing of elements Sue. I agree it looks like an etching. What a fabulous multi layered image you have created here. The light in the guy’s eyes and the eager look on his face leads to the idea that he is walking through his own imagination. I love this one. Dare I say – I think it’s one of your best. Please, please, please try and exhibit it somewhere. It’s really good. (You can always include a disclaimer that the street isn’t yours )
Thank you, Suzanne! I like your interpretation, and I am inclined to agree subject and composition wise, this is one of my better images. As to exhibiting, well, we’ll see …..
sorry – typo – should have said ‘wonderful’ in the first sentence. Also last sentence – should have said – ‘street art’ – my enthusiasm got the better of my typing 🙂
Oh, my mind had read wonderful, but I was a bit perplexed about street….. Thanks again for your most encouraging comments! 🙂
Excellent!
Thanks!
This is excellent, what a great idea! You’re timing seems to have been perfect as the expression on the guys face is something of surprise which seeing what’s happening around him is very fitting. Then I believe his bag says ART Materials, is that correct? That’s pretty ironic. Really great image all around. 😀
Thanks for sharing this.
Many thanks for your comments, eLPy…. The timing is indeed critical for many street shots, and this was no exception! And yes, I liked his Art materials bag, and of course the rolled tube. His expression was the ‘icing on the cake’, ie the final great detail 😀
Fantastic Sue. As if he is part of the art.
Exactly! How lucky was that 😀
Fascinating shot, Sue.
Thanks, Angeline…. One of my favourites 😀
Wow, great shot…you poor passer by looks a little startled
Just a tad!
That’s brilliant Sue ! that wide eyed expression on that young man’s face is priceless … he fits in so well carrying his own cardboard *tube* . Great capture and conversion 🙂
Thanks, Poppy….this was an absolute gift. I stood around this wall waiting for the right person to come along – there were various different people strolled into shot, I was just turning to leave when this chap came along! A bit of a grabbed shot, so sharpness isn’t the best, but the fact that so many elements came together makes the picture, I think 😀
It has a real 3d effect and without the poor fellow it would just be an image and not a story.
Exactly! I try not to take images of street art unless I can create a story…
Great street catch 🙂
Many thanks! I was pleased with this one 🙂
Outstanding in b&w! Love that street art and what great storytelling here!
Thanks! I try to tell stories with my Street photography, and I was very pleased with the way everything came together with this one….
And the guy is carrying a bag with ‘ART materials’ on it. And he’s looking, jaw-dropped. A superb classic artwork by Phlegm from Sheffield. Very well captured, Sue. What luck! There’s a major panoramic work of Phlegm at the back of the QE Hall on Southbank that I discovered last year. If you’re interested, here’s a link to my post about it: https://lensscaper.wordpress.com/2014/03/05/phlegm-at-southbank/
It was, as you say, fantastic luck! I’ve never noticed the South Bank Phlegm, I’m off to check your post out!
very cool.
Thanks!
Bizarrely beautiful! 🙂
Curious, would be more my take on it!
What a great moment to capture and how talented is that artist!
I was well chuffed with this one…talk about catching the moment! And yes, the artist is amazing
Congratulations! I really am enjoying your evolution from when you started although I really did like all the blue homes and shutters.
Blue homes and shutters???
Yes a long time ago I thought you did a lot of blue in your photos?
Really can’t remember! Been asleep since then!!
Heheeee
Great stride by and love the Phlegm work!
This chap striding past the Phlegm figures was a gift, I had been waiting to see if anyone interesting turned up!
It was worth the wait!
Certainly was, thanks!
