It’s time again for Frizztext’s A to Z Challenge, this week it’s Z. From my travels, Z could be only be for Zittau…
I have known what I would post for Z ever since I started these A to Z challenge responses…unlike some other letters where I hadn’t a clue. Trouble is, I can’t locate more than a few images at present, lost in the archives somewhere. it is well over a decade since we were there.
So anyway, here are a couple of shots. First up, one of the town’s old fortifications:

Fleischerbastei..remainder of the old city fortifications
An old cobbled street:

Nip over to Frizz’s blog and see some more Z here.
Love the first image – great turret – but what makes the shot for me is the guy on the bench. But tell me more about Zittau. I would have guessed Germany, confirmed by your tag, but where, and what is it like?
Did this post in a hurry… Zittau is in the far eastern end of Germany, in Eastern Saxony very close to the border with the Czech Republic. I haven’t been for over a decade and at the time it was still being renovated. But we liked it, it had some nice squares and interesting architecture – I note that Lonely Planet says it has ‘an unexpected Italian feel’. But one of the reasons for going was to take the narrow gauge train to Oybin and it’s ruined monastery.
Thanks Sue. Sounds like an interesting trip. Maybe time to return and see how it has progressed?
I doubt I’ll get back…shame, really.
Lovely, timeless pics, Sue.
Looks like a charming place Sue. It has been a fascinating A-Z with you so far! I remember how I struggled with Z last time and finally decided to visit Zeus temples across Europe 🙂
Well, if Frizz does another A to Z, I’ll have to think of a different theme, as I would be in trouble with Q, X and Z!
🙂
hi Sue,
next week I’ll start again with A – would be happy to have you on board for the next turn too!
Oh, my, I had better think of my theme!! 🙂
Beautiful architecture photography.
Thanks, Inese!
