Frizztext’s A toZ challenge: O is for Oybin

It’s time again for Frizztext’s A to Z Challenge, this week it’s O. From my travels, O could be for Obernai, Oxford, Ossiach, Orianenberg, Orange, Orford Ness, Oppède le Vieux…..

But I shall go for Oybin. Oybin is a municipality in the district Görlitz, in Saxony, Germany, located very close to the border of the Czech Republic. (Wikipedia)

We went over a decade ago, travelling from Zittau to Oybin on a narrow gauge railway which I had found out about before we travelled – even got an idea of the timetable from the internet! The reason for the trip was to see the romantic ruins of the medieval monastery there, which apparently were much painted by the likes of Caspar David Friedrich….

Starting the climb up to the monastery:

Hop over to Frizz for some more ‘O’s

    • Thanks!that was a ‘rescue’ – a very underexposed shot that I managed to pull some detail from! I’m always drawn to doorways, arches, passageways that look as if they might lead somewhere interesting! 🙂

  1. I’m with Simone here – that last photo is a beauty and draws me in.

  2. Nice photos, looks like it would have been an interesting walk.

  3. “O could be for Obernai, Oxford, Ossiach, Orianenberg, Orange, Orford Ness, Oppède le Vieux….” – the most famous “O” actually maybe is Obama – O.K. that’s not a city we could visit…

  4. You and your camera is a great team. *smile
