Frizztext’s A to Z Challenge: A – Angles sur l’Anglin

I’ve just noticed it’s Frizztext’s A to Z challenge again, and I’ve just squeezed in in time for A….

I have decided my response to the A to Z challenge will be a ‘postcard’ (or two) from a place I have visited at some stage, so it will be a nice little wander through travel memories… And perhaps some of my readers will be inspired to add places to their ‘must visit’ list!

A is for Angles sur l’Anglin, a village north east of Poitiers in the Vienne region of France. It is designated as one of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, and it certainly lives up to it’s name. The village sits beneath a striking ruined castle which towers above the Anglin valley. The castle was an important stronghold in medieval times.

The village itself consists of upper and lower sections. It has a bridge decked with flowers, from which the wheel of a water I’ll is visible, streets lined with medieval houses, a church with a Romanesque tower – in all, very photogenic. The village and surrounding area attracts many artists, unsurprisingly!

If you want to play along with this challenge, you can do so here

  1. It is amazingly beautiful…It would be fun to sit in the square and write a few postcards to send off, postcards that really captured the significance of such a moment.

  2. How wonderful – a French Ludlow! A castle, a river and bridge and medieval houses. I feel the need to go there…

  3. I can see why this is one of your favorite places in France, it’s beautiful!

  4. Emilio Pasquale

Love the architecture. I want to live here.

  5. That is a very photogenic place I would love to sit at that café and soak up the atmosphere

    • Very photogenic, and great atmosphere… I also liked wandering around early in the morning, as the sun rose over the castle, and people started setting off for the baker’s.

I love the reflections in the first photo.

  7. Sonel
