Ese’s Weekly Shoot and Quote Challenge: Direction

Great word Ese has chosen this week for her Shoot and Quote Challenge – Direction.
i liked the following quote –

“I find the great thing in this world is, not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving”. – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I have had a little trawl through the archive to see what I could find to tie in with this….

First, the direction home- the train leaves Waterloo station –

tracks leading home

tracks leading home

Next, the direction of the footpath is ‘up’ to Civita di Bagnoregio in Lazio –

The only direction is up...

The only direction is up…

over the Pontcysyllte viaduct on the Llangollen Canal-

Over the Pontcysyllte

Over the Pontcysyllte

and a circular direction by people –

Runners on the circuit of Lucca's walls

and by cars (during the Le Mans Classic) –

Follow the track

Follow the track

Well, I think that’s enough!

  1. What a fine selection Sue – trains (the rolling stock looks quite old?),Italy, canals (particularly the Llangollen), photography and classic racing cars – that more or less covers all my buttons (except for fast motorbikes 😉 )

    • Well, it’s great to know I’m pressing some buttons!! The rolling stock on the railway image looks old, because it was back then in the mid 1980s before it all got updated …. 🙂

  2. What is it about train tracks that are so cool?

  3. Very nice… love the sunset one 🙂

  4. Suzanne

Great quote and shot. I hope you didn’t stand on the railway lines to take it. 🙂

    • Oh, no… my usual trick of leaning out of the window… equally unsafe unless you keep your wits about you, and not something you can do on a main line these days (this was taken nearly 30 years ago).

  5. I love the train tracks photo, plus the one with the joggers – you’ve captured the sunlight really good in that one!

    • Thanks! Well, these are all about the golden hours!! The joggers were at dawn, and the train tracks when the sun was setting…. But these days I’m rarely around at the right time of day…

Stunning collection and post Sue. Love the quote as well. 😀 *hugs*

  7. I love your pictures, wow! The quotation fits well too. 🙂

  8. A great series of photos that fits perfect for the challenge. The canal boats on Llangollen Canal is my favourite, which by the way is a fantastic way to get around in Great Britain.

  9. The train tracks and the sunset are my picks, from you superb gallery too 🙂

  10. These are all fabulous shots, and fit with your quote and the theme so well. I especially loved the shot of the runners with the avenue of trees in the setting sun….wonderful light!

  11. nice gallery of directions!

  12. Perfect choices! You have revealed to me quite a few directions and I really enjoyed being taken along on those trips – so different, yet unknown and full of promises, excitement. 🙂

    • Glad you liked them, Ese! As you say, all very different journeys and of these perhaps my favourite was walking up the high bridge to Civita di Bagnoregio – atmospheric and unknown, and I was hopeful of finding some interesting photographs to take…. 🙂
